The Grain Market of Barcelona<\/strong> is a secular institution originating in the 14th century with the construction of the Casa Llotja de Mar building to store and trade grains. \u00a0It operates under the supervision of the Catalan Ministry of Business and Labour and the auspices of the Barcelona Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Shipping.<\/p>\n The Grain Market<\/strong> has over 400 members<\/strong> divided between merchants, manufacturers and commercial agents whose work involves the regular trading of grains, legumes, fodder, nuts, flours, preserved goods, animal health products, foodstuffs for human consumption, agricultural commodities and other typically marketed or traded goods or those which may be traded on the Grain Market at Casa Llotja de Mar of Barcelona in the future and which use the contracting centre for that purpose. Our users hail from Catalonia, Valencia, Aragon, Madrid, the Balearic Islands and the south of France. Ours is the largest market in Spain and the second-largest in Europe in terms of trading volume<\/strong> today.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The core function of the Market is to promote the trading of grains and similar products<\/strong>, facilitating the most suitable places for this to be carried out both in terms of physical space and the organisation of sector events. As a public service, it is open to all businesses in the legal exercise of their profession which ask to join it.<\/p>\n Market meetings have been held since time immemorial in the Contracting Hall at Casa Llotja de Mar<\/strong>. These days, they are held every Tuesday from 12 midday to 5 pm<\/strong> in the Consul’s Room at the Casa.<\/p>\n When the Tuesday meeting has ended, the Pricing Committee meets to determine the weighted mean price that was produced to foster greater market transparency.
